THE number of mountain bike riders caught on walking tracks on Mt Wellington had doubled in a year, the Wellington Park Managment Trust said in its annual report.

The report revealed 81 people were detected riding mountain bikes on walking tracks in 2018-19.

But the report noted the increase might be due to increased use of surveillance camera catching more people out.

There had also been reports from some walkers that some riders were “discourteous, inconsiderate or unsafe”.

And it said 191 riders were detected using illegally constructed tracks.

The report said there had been continued instances of unauthorised drone use in the park during the year.

And 13 people were caught with their dog off-lead and five in areas where dogs were not permitted.
