UPDATED: A 57-YEAR-OLD man from Tasmania’s south has died following a crash on the Bass Highway at Deloraine.

Emergency services were called to the crash at 11am on Monday and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash, involving a truck and a car, happened near the Ashley Detention Centre.

Initial investigations indicate the Hyundai sedan was travelling towards Launceston behind another truck.

Investigations are continuing, but police said road and weather conditions did not appear to be a factor in the crash.

The section of the Bass Highway, near Exton, was closed for several hours with vehicles diverted via Meander Valley Rd.

Crash Investigation Services attended the scene and a report is being prepared for the Coroner.

The man’s death takes Tasmania’s road toll to 17 — seven more than the same time last year.
