NOVOTEL has been confirmed as the operator of a new hotel development in Hobart, which will occupy the site of the former Myer homewares in Macquarie St.
The nine storey and 206 room hotel is being built by Singaporean company, Fragrance Group, which bought he site in 2018.
The build includes a hotel with a restaurant, a function centre and basement level parking.
Fragrance is now hoping to have new signage approved for the site, including five with “Novotel” and two signs for the restaurant.
Planners say the signage will not affect the height of the approved design and would not protrude.
The development was opposed by a neighbouring business and the matter was taken to the Tasmanian Civil and Administrative tribunal, which dismissed the appeal.
Consultation is open from community members to have their say about the signs.
Currently, Novotel only operates one hotel in Tasmania, which is in Devonport.
