TUESDAY will get off to a literally frosty start across parts of Tassie, with icy conditions forecast and near-zero temperatures.

The City of Hobart advised there would be a “pre-emptive closure” of Pinnacle Road at the Springs at 9pm Monday due to forecast ice overnight.

The temperature on the top of kunanyi/Mt Wellington will feel like winter on Tuesday, with a minimum temp of -1C and frost expected.

“A high pressure system will move over southern Tasmania (Monday) and into Tuesday,” the Bureau of Meteorology said.

“A low should develop to the northeast of Tasmania during Wednesday, then a ridge of high pressure will extend over Tasmania on Thursday as the low moves over the Tasman Sea.”

There’s a chance of fog in the early morning for the south east district on Tuesday, with overnight temperatures falling to between 2 and 8C with daytime temperatures warming up to between 16-21.

Patches of frost and the chance of morning fog is on the way for the Upper Derwent Valley, Midlands and Central Plateau districts.

Temps will dip to zero degrees in the Upper Derwent Valley, around 2C in the Midlands and minus 1 for the Central Plateau.
