A HUON Valley woman facing scores of criminal allegations following the road death of her boyfriend has been slapped with fresh charges – including drink driving and fleeing a crash scene.
Melissa Oates, 34, is currently on bail following the Huonville death of 26-year-old Jari Wise on February 29 this year.
She has faced court several times this year – amid tense scenes with Mr Wise’s grieving family – after she was initially charged with four counts of breaching a family violence order, but not with causing her partner’s death.
That later skyrocketed to 122 breaches of a family violence order, plus two counts of common assault and one count of injuring property.
On Monday, Tasmania Police announced it had concluded a “complex investigation” into Mr Wise’s death that had been referred to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
As a result, the Lucaston woman has now also been charged with dangerous driving, driving while exceeding the prescribed alcohol limit, and failing to remain at the scene of a crash.
Mr Wise’s death has shaken the Huon Valley community, with a vigil held at the crash scene on Wilmot Road and an outpouring of anger and emotion via social media.
Ms Oates is expected to return to the Hobart Magistrates Court on September 17 to enter a plea to the family violence order charges.
She is expected to attend court on October 2 regarding the fresh charges.
