The stakes on the runway were as high as the racing on the track with two locals taking home the title of Launceston Cup fashion king and queen.

Anyone with a passion for fashion can join the colourful and sophisticated extravaganza for a chance to win a fabulous overseas holiday.

Tasmanian Turf Club Chairman Brian Walker said the close to 10,000-strong, well-behaved crowd was a beautiful sight.

Former New Zealand stayer Home By Midnight led the way for an interstate domination of the Launceston Cup at Mowbray, ploughing through a rain-affected track to score impressively over 2400 metres.

A contemporary mythological feminist play featuring some of Tasmania’s leading actors dominated the Tasmanian Theatre Awards.

Kate Mulvany’s The Mares, produced by the Tasmanian Theatre Company and Ten Days on the Island, picked up six awards in the Professional category, including Outstanding Production, Outstanding Direction and Outstanding Writing.

One of the show’s stars, Launceston-based Jane Johnson, shared the award for Outstanding Performance with Maeve Mhairi MacGregor (the new artistic director of the Tasmanian Theatre Company) for her part in Gruesome Playground Injuries.

The inaugural Tasmanian Wine Festival was held on February 22 and 23 at the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens.

The summer event showcased Tasmania’s top wines and food, along with local and interstate live music and entertainment.

The Old Woolstore hosted the first Destination Southern Tasmania Tips & Tipples event of 2020, with more than 100 tourism, hospitality and mountain biking enthusiasts attending.

Tips and Tipples is a series of free events that brings industry together each month to network, while also featuring presenters on topical themes relevant to members.
