STRONG interest in a travel voucher offer from a Tasmanian cruise company has provided a priceless confidence boost for staff as the business tries to stay afloat amid closed borders.

Pennicott Wilderness Journeys is offering $1 million in discount vouchers to get locals onto one of the company’s cruises.

Marketing manager Melinda Anderson said the business had been inundated with inquiries in the week since the vouchers were announced.

“There’s been amazing support from Tasmanians, the phones were running hot the very next day after The Mercury story and we had to bring a couple of extra staff in to manage the administration over the next few days,” she said.

Ms Anderson said as the business was heavily reliant on interstate and international bookings, the take up of vouchers were helping staff stay positive during coronavirus travel restrictions.

“It’s certainly a big confidence boost as well, to feel like we’re on the right track and we can get through this,” she said.

Ms Anderson encouraged Tasmanians thinking of travelling locally to take advantage of the offer.

“We’ve certainly got plenty of availability left,” she said.

Under the scheme Tasmanians can claim a $50 voucher for use on a Pennicott Bruny Island, Tasman Island or Wineglass cruises.

The vouchers are available until September 30 or until sold out for travel until April next year.

The vouchers were offered after Tasmanians recently snapped up $7.5 million worth of state government travel vouchers in 40 minutes

RACT travel has also launched a voucher scheme, offering a $50 experience voucher to anyone who uses a state government travel voucher to book a trip via RACT.
