TWO men have appeared in a Hobart court on drug trafficking charges.
Justin Richard Maynard, 42, and Luke Arthur Waddell-Smith, 25, appeared in the Magistrates Court this morning, charged with trafficking in a controlled substance.
The men, both from the Eastern Shore suburb of Rokeby, were remanded in custody to reappear in the same court on May 28.
Tasmania Police said the arrests followed a targeted police operation into the distribution of crystal methylamphetamine – also known as ice – and cocaine.
Police allege ice with a street value of about $155,000 and cocaine with a street value of about $65,000 were recovered following the arrests and searches of two private residences in Rokeby and Sandy Bay and a licensed premises in Hobart.
Detective Inspector Jason Elmer, of Southern Drug Investigation Services, said: “Illicit drugs, particularly ice, have a significant impact upon the community and these latest arrests demonstrate that Tasmania Police will continue to dedicate resources to investigate and bring those responsible for the manufacture or distribution of illicit drugs before the courts.”
