The founder of Red Bull Hardline will tackle the Maydena course for the first time at next year’s event in a field experts describe as the “best Red Bull Hardline line-up we have ever seen”.

Gee Atherton, who created the event with his brother Dan Atherton in Wales in 2014, will feature at the Red Bull Hardline Tasmania to be held in the Derwent Valley in February 2025.

He will be joined by a hand-picked, world class line-up led by the defending champion Ronan Dunne, who will be aiming for a hat-trick after winning both this year’s hardlines in Tasmania and Wales.

The inaugural Rider of the Week at the Australian competition, Canada’s Gracey Hemstreet will also return.

The invite-only line up will bring together 34 of the world’s best male and female mountain bikers to Maydena Bike Park for the second Australian edition of the world’s most daring downhill mountain bike event.

Australian riders also flood the list of global superstars, including Tasmanian Dan Booker, Maydena-based Darcy Coutts, Connor Fearon, Troy Brosnan and veteran Sam Hill.

The event will be hosted in Tasmania until 2026, with Sports Minister Nick Duigan saying the state government was providing the event with $1.4 million funding.

“We are thrilled to see some of the world’s best male and female mountain bikers named in the line-up for the 2025 Red Bull Hardline Tasmania event returning to Maydena in February,” Minister Duigan said.

“We know the debut event was a roaring success and the event’s return is exciting for Tasmania and especially for those who love mountain biking.”

Rob Warner, who is one of the industry experts responsible for picking the riders, described the selection as the best “we have ever seen” on a podcast, Just Ride.
