THE final tickets for an iconic Launceston festival have been snapped up within minutes.
Though The Basin Concert was only announced two weeks ago, overwhelming demand has meant all tickets sold out as of Friday morning.
For those lucky enough to score a spot, March 26 and 27 will showcase some of Australia’s most popular acts, including Ball Park Music, Spacey Jane and Kasey Chambers.
Ball Park Music guitarist Dean Hanson said the band was looking forward to a return to Tassie.
“Beautiful location, wonderful music and thousands of friends, it’s a no-brainer,” he said.
Hobart singer-songwriter Bec Stevens said she couldn’t wait to play for the crowd.
“So cool to be playing at an event that my old man went to back when he was 17 or 18 years old, now he gets to come and see his kid play to a sold out crowd at the same event 40-odd years later!,” she said.
There will still be opportunities for tickets, with an official resale site offering tickets when they become available.
Punters are encouraged to use the official resale point on Tixel to buy or sell tickets.
FEBRUARY 3:
Ball Park Music, Spacey Jane, Holy Holy and Kasey Chambers at Launceston’s Cataract Gorge. Do we have your attention?
That’s just a little taste of the next major music festival to grace Tassie’s shores in late March after the pandemic all but wiped live music off the map.
Organises in charge of reviving the once iconic Basin Concert returned with a bang revealing a full line-up for the two day festival that they say will “satisfy a range of musical tastes and ages.”
Headlining is Brisbane’s Ball Park Music, who recently released their self-titled sixth record and more recently finished fourth in Triple J’s hottest 100 with their track ‘Cherub’.
Hottest 100 alumni Spacey Jane, who took out second spot with their track ‘Booster Seat’, will also be among the acts rocking out in the gorge.
For those after a more Aussie-classics vibe, Kasey Chambers and Australian rock royalty, Spiderbait, will also be taking to the stage.
Plenty of homegrown talent will also be on display with the likes of Bec Stevens, Carl Renshaw, In the Flowers, Medhanit, Slaughterhaus Surf Cult and The Holiday Collective all prepared to please crowds.
Vibestown Productions Director, Jesse Higgs, said that producers were “super stoked” to be bringing together this line-up for Tasmanian audiences.
“With the time frame we had and the testing conditions present, we are both relieved and excited to be delivering the goods to our Tassie compadre,’ said Mr Higgs.
The event will run on the 26th and 27th or March in the Cataract Gorge, Launceston.
“Weekend tickets as well as individual day tickets will be limited, with capacity capped at 3,000 entrants at any given time, due to COVID-19 restrictions,” organisers said.
The event is all ages, but under 18’s will need to be accompanied by a parent, guardian or responsible adult over 21 years of age.
Pre-sale tickets will be available from 6pm tonight, with general ticket sales released at 8am tomorrow and will be available from www.basinconcert.com.au.
The Basin Concert’s were originally held in the gorge starting in 1969 but ended in 1999, returning briefly between 2014 and 2016.
At it’s hight, the festival boasted crowds up to 10,000 people and was widely renowned as a must-stop destination for touring artists and local acts alike.
In 2021, The Basin Concert is back promising to bring together the best Australian music and great local food and beverages to Launceston’s Cataract Gorge.
