It’s been two years since country music legend Lee Kernaghan last toured. However, he has been busy during the interim. Find out what he has been up to.

More than 32 years after he burst on to the country music scene with his debut album, The Outback Club, Lee Kernaghan feels refreshed.

He is about to do a nationwide tour for the first time in about two years, with a new band in tow, and is set to release his first new single since 2019.

Oh, and he also launched an app where fans can interact with celebrities such as Shannon Noll, Vanilla Ice, Karl Stefanovic and Patrick Cripps.

Kernaghan has previously been using beloved Tasmania act The Wolfe Brothers as his backing band for about a decade.

“The boys have branched out and are doing their own shows now, which is fantastic, and they’re currently in the US songwriting, so I’ve got another band that I use that is absolutely brilliant,” he said.

“I’ve been really fortunate throughout my career to have been able to play with some of the best players in not only Australia.”

By the time his new national tour kicks off, Kernaghan’s new single will be out.

“It’s been quite a while since I’ve had new music. But I just wanted to wait until I had something that I wanted to say,” he said.

“I didn’t just want to put music out mindlessly; I wanted it to mean something.

“I think the new one is going to resonate with a lot of people around the country.”

Kernaghan said he was excited to head back to Tasmania, describing it as “God’s country”.

“It’s also home to the Wolfe Brothers, of course, so dear to my heart in that respect. It’s been the scene of some of the greatest shows of my career.

“Wrest Point Casino is one of the premium venues to see a concert anywhere in Australia, so we are very excited to be bringing the full production show to town.

“But I love just hanging around Tasmania and I’m going to tack on a bit of a holiday when the show is over.”

Outside of music, Kernaghan and his wife Robyn launched a new app called StarKix.

“It was born out of Covid when the whole country was shut down, and we couldn’t communicate with each other one-on-one,” he said.

“This has been built as a solution for people to connect.

“It’s just a fun way to have a conversation with your favourite artists from music, film or sport.

“The whole idea of it is to have that authentic connection.”

Kernaghan will perform at the Burnie Town Hall on July 25, the Princess Theatre in Launceston the following evening, and wrap up on the 27th at the Wrest Point Casino.
