Lane closure looms as Bridge of Remembrance nears completion
Work on Hobart’s Bridge of Remembrance is set to continue for the rest of the month, with one final lane closure planned on the Tasman Highway.

WORK on Hobart’s Bridge of Remembrance is set to continue for the rest of the month, with one final lane closure scheduled for late this month.
A section of the Tasman Highway was closed to allow two 30m spans of the $11 million footbridge to be lifted into place last month, and work is continuing.
A Hobart City Council spokesman said remaining work included finishing installation of aluminium cladding panels, a stainless steel handrail, a stainless steel safety mesh balustrading, lighting, ground works and preparation for landscaping.
Contractor Fulton Hogan’s work is expected to be completed next month.
The spokesman for the council said there will be one final road closure at the end of this month to install the last custom-ordered cladding panel above the highway.
The middle two lanes of the Tasman Highway — one in each direction — will be closed from midnight until 6am, but no date has been locked in.
The bridge was meant to be completed by November 11 last year.
In a statement, Hobart Lord Mayor Anna Reynolds thanked motorists for their patience during the raising of the Bridge of Remembrance and the Brooker Bridge, which was lifted into place on Friday night. Work on that bridge is continuing as well.
