A young Tasmanian man who was killed by an out of control vehicle involved in a collision has been identified, with his heartbroken friends and partner penning moving tributes.

Trevallyn man Kane Morgan, 26, was standing alongside a 46-year-old Scottsdale man, believed by police to be a relative, at the intersection of Margaret and Frederick streets in Launceston when the pair was struck at approximately 9.20pm on October 12.

The older man was seriously injured and taken to Launceston General Hospital, but Mr Morgan succumbed to his injuries.

Mr Morgan’s girlfriend Kirstyn Mance wrote on social media her late partner would “forever be in my heart”.

“My heart is hurting so badly. I’m feeling so lost without you. I’m not doing well without you,” she said.

Friend Jayde Burling wrote: “Such a f—ing shame.”

“You were such a good, genuine bloke,” he said.

“Fly high mate.”

Kerstie McCormick said her friend Mr Morgan would be “forever missed”.

“It doesn’t seem real,” she wrote.

“I don’t even have any words at the moment.

“You were one of the good ones. I will forever cherish our friendship.”

Tasmania Police previously said the two-vehicle collision that killed Mr Morgan involved a blue Mitsubishi Triton utility and a black Toyota C-HR SUV.

Acting Inspector Stuart Greenwood said the collision occurred as the Toyota, which was travelling south on Margaret St, attempted to turn right onto Frederick St and crossed the path of the Mitsubishi, which flipped the smaller vehicle into the pair.

The Triton’s driver, a 23-year-old from Carrick, remained on-scene to render assistance and speak to police, but the four occupants of the Toyota fled. Three were subsequently arrested and released without charge.

Police confirmed on Wednesday they had now spoken with the fourth occupant of the Toyota as well.

“No charges have been laid at this stage. The investigation into the crash is ongoing,” a spokeswoman said.
