Hurricanes land two prime time slots for BBL|10 while women will only play at home twice in WBBL

THE Hobart Hurricanes have landed two prime time slots for this summer’s BBL following the release of the fixture for 10th edition of the tournament.

Hobart has not only held its Christmas Eve slot — a showdown against the Melbourne Stars starting at 2.45pm — but will also feature on New Year’s Eve against the Strikers in Adelaide.

This year’s tournament kicks off on December 3, with the Hurricanes to feature in the second match against the Sydney Sixers on the road the following night.

The side’s first home match will be against the Melbourne Renegades on Monday December 7.

Launceston’s UTAS Stadium will again host two games, the first against the Perth Scorchers on December 16 and the second against the Brisbane Heat on January 21.

The team will play all seven of its home matches in Tasmania after selling it’s BBL|09 opener to Alice Springs last year.

Much like the international fixture released in late May, the Big Bash fixtures are expected to still have some movement due to the ongoing nature of COVID-19.

“As with all sporting competitions around the world, we must remain vigilant and agile in responding to the COVID-19 situation as it develops and we will continue to work with all relevant federal and state government agencies, biosecurity experts, venues, clubs, players, broadcast partners and our own internal teams to ensure a safe and successful summer,” said Cricket Australia Head of Big Bash Leagues Alistair Dobson.

“We’ll continue to act in accordance with public health advice and government protocols to ensure the safety of the public, players and support staff.”

The Hurricanes will also play in Geelong for the first time against the Melbourne Renegades (January 8), part of a tough stretch which sees them in Perth two days earlier and then host the Strikers two days later.

The WBBL|06 fixture has also been released, with the tournament again to be played as a stand-alone event commencing in October.

The Hurricanes are slated to play just two matches on home soil — against the Melbourne Renegades (October 24) and Sydney Sixers (October 25), while the Perth Scorchers also clash with the Renegades and Sixers in Tasmania the same weekend.

Venues for those contests are yet to be finalised.
