HOBART’S favourite watering holes are coming back to life.
As the coronavirus pandemic restrictions ease, pubs and restaurants that were forced to close their doors are now able to reopen.
The State Government has thrown the Tasmanian hospitality industry a lifeline by allowing hotels, cafes and restaurants to host up to 40 patrons from 3pm Friday afternoon, also easing restrictions on travel and accommodation.

Hotels open this weekend
Prince of Wales Hotel in Hampden Rd
When punters return to the Prince of Wales Hotel this weekend, it might look a bit different to what they’re used to.
Licensee Owen Humphries is still reading through the changes he’s had to make to allow his pub to reopen its doors to people wanting an after-work frothie.
“When you’ve got a large venue like mine, it may look a little weird with two separate groups of people and people not allowed at the bar,” Mr Humphries said.
“But it’s so great to be out trading again and be back into the community.”
Mr Humphries said minutes after Tuesday’s announcement restrictions on pubs would lift at 3pm Friday, his phone was ringing.
“I hadn’t even had time to read through my requirements before I was taking bookings for Friday night,” he said.
“Being allowed 40 patrons is fantastic. Essentially, even with the 10 it hasn’t been exactly viable so it’ll be great for people to come back and have a good time.”
Due to social distancing restrictions, the pub has limited seating for two dinner seatings (5.30-7.15pm and 7.30-9.30pm).
To book phone 6223 6355 between 12-9pm.
