Hobart’s Cake a Chance on Belinda named Tasmania’s best cake maker

A Hobart mum has been crowned Tasmania’s best cake maker for her epic 3D creations that have captured the attention of thousands. MEET THE WINNER + FINALISTS >>

At first glance these epic creations look like sculptures of art. But if you look closely the masterpieces are edible - chocolate, marble and rainbow mud cakes baked by a talented local that has captured the heart of sweet tooths near and far.

Hobart’s Belinda Van Boven is the woman behind Cake a Chance on Belinda - the best cake maker in Tasmania as voted by our readers.

Ms Van Boven’s first found a love for cake decorating when she started to get creative with her own daughter’s birthday celebrations several years ago.

“I just did a few friends’ cakes here and there then word of mouth took my Facebook page right off,” said Van Boven.

“I started out with around 200-300 followers to my page which was very exciting at the time and now have nearly 8,000 which is so surreal,”

Her playful pieces of work include everything from lifelike replicas of Baby Yoda to a personal favourite for her daughter’s baby shower - a 3D giraffe.

“It is one of my most interacted with posts,” she said.

“I am always up for a challenge when it comes to designs and my customers ideas, though some have been super tricky I love creating them!”

“Whether it be a baby shower through to a 90th birthday I like knowing my creations make an impact.”
