A PROGRAM where diners can earn vouchers to spend at Hobart cafes and restaurants has been extended until the end of summer.
The Hobart City Council’s Passport to Hobart pilot program was originally intended to run for four weeks, with diners encouraged to try one of the 58 different businesses involved to earn vouchers.
The Stamp Me app is free and the first 3500 people to download it get a $10 welcome voucher. By spending $20 at a participating venue, you earn a stamp – five stamps earn a $20 voucher.
The council had set aside $70,000 to pay out the vouchers.
Patrons now have until midnight February 28 to collect stamps and get rewarded for dining out.
Owner of participating venue Billy’s Burgers and Bar, Leo Miller, said they had people coming in every day now to either redeem the $10 voucher, collect a stamp plus a handful of people who had earned their $20 reward.
“I think it was important to extend the program because a lot of people are sitting on 2, 3 or 4 stamps and just need that extra bit of time to redeem their reward,” he said.
“It’s catching on more and more as time has gone on.
“We welcome anything that helps support the sector – we’ve tried a lot of different initiatives as we’ve come out of COVID and some didn’t work, but a lot did.”
