He resigned as leader of the Tasmanian Labor Party in 2017, but if all goes to plan for Bryan Green, he could make a political comeback next year.
Mr Green stepped away from political life, after 19 years, after a poll showed support for him to become leader was at just 20 per cent.
But now he will be running in next year’s Upper House election for the seat of Prosser.
The seat is currently held by Liberal member Jane Howlett, who will recontesting her seat in May next year.
”Having worked closely with Bryan I know first-hand the extraordinary work ethic he will bring to the parliament,” Labor leader Rebecca White said.
“Bryan has been motivated to put his hand up because he knows the people of Prosser need someone who can get things done for them and who can make a real difference on the key issues of cost of living, health and housing.”
Ms White said Mr Green was an active member of the community in his electorate.
“Bryan lives in the electorate and runs his own business, Twin Lakes Bush Retreat and Fly Fishery, which has given him first-hand experience of the tourism and hospitality industries – as well as an excellent grasp of the challenges small businesses face,” she said.
“He is motivated and enthusiastic about delivering for his community and I know he will be a great asset, not only for the people of Prosser but also for the Labor team.”
