A man has been charged and after a “deliberately lit” inferno at Flint House, an emergency accommodation facility in Hobart’s north, caused mass destruction.
A 26-year-old man has been charged with arson in relation to the fire.
Fire Service Investigators on Tuesday morning determined the fire, which started in a bedroom, was deliberately lit.
The man was initially taken into police custody and was assisting them with inquiries.
The man has been remanded in custody and will reappear before the Hobart Magistrates Court on April 22.
Emergency services extinguished the blaze on Monday night and the roughly 30 residents were given temporary accommodation.
No one was injured during the blaze.
The 40-room boarding house Flint House was convict-built in the mid 1800s.
