When Jade and Rohan Polanowski made the tree change to Richmond, they took the phrase “putting down roots” quite literally - embarking on a new chapter as the newly minted owners of the Richmond Christmas Tree Farm.
With Christmas just around the corner, the family is gearing up to welcome their first festive season on the farm.
“We’ve always loved Christmas, and the idea of running a Christmas tree farm seemed so magical to us,” Mrs Polanowski said.
“We were on the mainland last year, looking for a house to buy down here in Tassie, and we saw the farm and thought, ‘It’s just too good an opportunity for us to pass up’.
“We love the business and have taken it on a bit of a side project.”
First planted by the Mendham family in 2012, the Polanowski’s open tickets to the 10ha Richmond property to the public at 7pm on November 15.
“So the trees have always been very popular. A few years ago, the previous owners, Nat and Jared, implemented a ticketing system where on November 15, every year, the tickets go on sale online,” Mr Polanowski said.
“Your ticket will be for one tree, but you may bring as many friends and family as you like to help you choose. We’re also dog-friendly.
“And tickets are $30, which will be taken off the price of your tree.”
Along with their nine-month-old daughter Zoe, Mr and Mrs Polanowski said the family are counting the days until Christmas this year.
“This year, we will have a couple of stalls to enhance the experience of coming out to the farm and getting into the spirit of Christmas,” Mrs Polanowski said.
“Nan’s Christmas Puddings is a local business from Campania, which is around the corner from us, and they’ll be supplying some Christmas puddings for us to sell.
“We’ll also have some beautifully handcrafted Christmas decorations by Tasmanian Softies on offer too.”
Tickets to the Richmond Christmas Tree Farm open days in December are essential and will be released at 7pm on November 15 online at https://richmondchristmastreefarm.com.au/.
