If you’re hankering for a fresh, spice and flavour-packed taco to delight your tastebuds, look no further than this popular Hobart eatery, who have made it to a top spot on the delicious. 100, 2023 poll.

What’s the secret to the best tacos?

According to Hobart’s Mother Mexico, it’s colourful and fresh ingredients, and a blend of citrus and spices, all mixed in with plenty of love.

The Mexican cantina, which is renowned for their Baja taco, marinated pork tacos and nachos, has been named as one of the top five taco eateries in Tasmania in this year’s delicious. 100 Best of the Best.

“The secret is [for the taco] to be packed full of flavour,” Mother Mexico owner Ben Korkmaz said.

“[Having] bright, fresh flavours, and I think always the key is having those elements of sweet and sour, with citrus and heat.

“Chilli and citrus is always an amazing combo in Mexican cuisine, as well as colour – use as much colour as you can, because you eat with your eyes before anything else.”

Mr Korkmaz said he likes to play with different chillies, and different types of jalapeños in his dishes.

“There’s lots of little secret ingredients in the best tacos, but we play around with a lot of dried chillies as well and use spices like cumin and garlic,” he said.

“But the marinades are definitely full of spices, as well as chillies.”
