A heartbroken daughter has paid tribute to her “hero” father after he died in a truck crash.

David McIntosh was killed when the truck he was driving rolled on Semmens Rd, St Marys just before 8.30am Tuesday morning.

The 65-year-old was born in NSW and grew up in the Mid North Coast town of Forster.

He came to Tasmania on a holiday more than 30 years ago and met the “love of his life”, future wife Louise.

The couple were married for 29 years and created a life together in Launceston.

Mr McIntosh has left behind children Kellie, 43, Brendan, 37, Camille, 35, Brenna, 29, Anthony, 27, and Drew, 23.

Brenna said the family were devastated by his loss.

“I’m absolutely heartbroken. He was my hero and loved him so much,” Brenna said.

“He was the most loving, caring man ever. He was such a beautiful soul.

“He will be forever in my heart. Fly high my angel.”

Mr McIntosh had been driving trucks for more than two decades and was employed by Suncoast Express.

Brenna said some of her earliest and favourite memories were climbing into her father’s truck and going for a drive.

The beloved father was also a big sports fan.

“He loved his footy,” Brenna said.

“He was a one-eyed Bombers supporter and was tied up with the North Launceston Football Club.”

Brenna said she’d never forget her father staying by her bedside while she was in a coma for six days earlier this year.

“It still chokes me up (thinking about seeing her parents for the first time after the coma), I’m very blessed to be here and to actually talk about it,” she said at the time.

“My dad has been by my side the whole time, he has not left me.”

Brenna said her father would be remembered for saying “long story short” before he spun a yarn that “would go on for ages but then he’d forget the main part of the story”.

“But most of all we’ll remember him because he’d give his shirt off his back if you asked for it.”

Tasmania Police’s investigations into the crash are ongoing and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
