DA submitted to Clarence City Council for 9/11 Bottleshop outlet next door to proposed new Dan Murphys in Bellerive
Two neighbouring bottleshop proposals have been submitted to a greater Hobart council, with the local developers of one taking a swipe at the other national chain in the process.

JUST days after some local residents raised their concerns about plans for a Dan Murphys outlet in their suburb, a second bottleshop proposal for the site next door has come to light.
Earlier this week, a group of Bellerive residents urged Clarence aldermen not to approve a plan for a Dan Murphy’s outlet in the suburb, raising concerns about traffic and saying the area already had enough bottle shops.
Developers have lodged plans with the Clarence City Council to transform the building at 10 Percy St — which until 12 months ago was home to an indoor sports centre — into a liquor store that would be open seven days a week from 8am to 10pm.
Comments on the development proposal closed on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, the council advertised plans by local developers the Behrakis Group to have a bottleshop at their revamped Salamanca Fresh store in Bellerive.
The company had plans to redevelop its existing store on the corner of Clarence and Scott Sts – adjacent to the Dan Murphys site – approved by council in December, with work currently underway and an expected completion date at the end of July.
A new second tenancy in the renovated building would be home to a 9/11 Bottleshop which would operate from 9am-10pm seven days a week.
Behrakis Group property and development manager Peter Shires said their Bellerive project was different to the national alcohol retailer’s proposal.
“Our development at Bellerive has been designed to provide sufficient carparking on site to cope with both our Salamanca Fresh store and the 9/11 bottle shop – a very different proposal we understand from the proposed Dan Murphy location where both car and truck delivery access is likely to cause major disruption to the local area,” Mr Shires said.
Public comment on the 9/11 proposal closes on April 12.
