A KINGBOROUGH bus driver who is charged with causing the death of a father and his two-year-old daughter last year has faced court for the first time.
Christine Helen Chatteron, 68, of Blackmans Bay appeared in the Hobart Magistrates Court on Friday morning.
She is charged with two counts of causing the death of another person by negligent driving.
It was alleged Ms Chatterton caused the death of a 42-year-old father, and his two-year-old daughter on August 13 last year at Algona Rd, Huntingfield.
The particulars of the negligence were alleged to be that Ms Chatterton drove at excessive speed, failed to maintain a safe distance, applied excessive brake pressure and failed to take all reasonable precautions to avoid a collision.
The peak-hour crash was described by police at the time as “a traumatic scene” that will “shake the whole community.”
Police said the head-on collision involved a white 1998 Hino passenger bus and a black Lexus sedan.
A GoFundMe page for the deceased’s family raised thousands of dollars within days of the crash.
The fundraiser was created to support the mother and newborn baby who were left to cope with the devastating loss of two family members.
Ms Chatterton did not enter a plea before Magistrate Jackie Hartnett and was bailed to reappear on August 3.
