NOW that Mary Viturino and Connor Canning’s big secret has been shared on social media, the family are ready to embrace the next phase of their lives.
Tasmania’s Conor Canning and partner Mary Viturino took the nation by storm earlier this year with their fairytale run on reality TV show Bachelor in Paradise.
Ms Viturino moved from Victoria to Tasmania with her young daughter, Chanel, who is now attending Mount Carmel.
The couple announced a baby was on the way in an Instagram post on Saturday morning.
The now 13-weeks-pregnant Mary Viturino told the Mercury she had been feeling sick and exhausted when she decided to take the test.
“I was in shock, I was like ‘Houston, we have a problem’,” she said.
“Now I’m more excited because I did the scan and could see the baby and everything was all right.”
But hiding the secret was no easy task for Mary, whose sudden retreat from social media meant her mother living in Brazil correctly guessed a baby was on the way.
“She was asking me for the last six weeks if I was pregnant,” Ms Viturino said.
“It was so hard because I was feeling a lot of morning sickness and tiredness, especially at work, but I had to pretend everything was good.
“I was looking forward to telling people so I could buy pants that actually fit me, and I need a pregnancy pillow.”
Mary said Conor and his family’s reactions to the news were “beautiful” and tearful, with her daughter Chanel ecstatic to know she would soon be a big sister.
“She’s been playing with lots of dollies as babies lately,” Ms Viturino said.
“She even wants to sleep in the room with the baby.”
The family have prepared a list of names, with the agreement Conor will have the final say if the baby is a boy and Mary will choose if they have a girl.
“Now we’re going to start looking for a bigger house and when I’m about 25 to 30 weeks I’ll start buying baby things,” Ms Viturino said.
She said Conor was embracing fatherhood and buying meals to satisfy her “crazy” food cravings.
“He always says he wants five kids,” she said.
“I always say ‘go through the first month with a newborn — if you still want the five after that we can talk about it’.”
