September 19, 6am: A police officer’s thumb has been dislocated after an “aggressive” woman allegedly resisted arrest, police say.

Northern Watch Commander Steve Rankin said NT Police tried to arrest the woman in Oasis, Katherine at about 3.30pm Wednesday.

Sergeant Rankin said the woman had been allegedly behaving in a disorderly manner.

He said when police were trying to secure her in a “cage”, she allegedly spat in an officer’s face.

Sergeant Rankin said when an officer tried to “control” and manoeuvre her into the cage, his thumb became dislocated.

The woman was charged with assault police and disorderly behaviour.

Man arrested after Top End woman stabbed in back

September 17, 9am: A man has been arrested by police after a woman was stabbed in the back in broad daylight in a remote Top End community.

About 4.50pm on Monday, police received reports that a woman had been assaulted in the remote community of Warruwi while she was walking down the street.

The woman was allegedly attacked by a man unknown to her, police said in a statement.

She sustained a stab wound to her back.

The alleged offender fled the scene, with the woman then taken to the local clinic for treatment.

Maningrida Police deployed officers to the community via Airwing and arrested a 26-year-old man who is expected to be charged.

Investigations remain ongoing.

Woman in critical condition after Top End ‘edged weapon’ attack

September 17, 9am: A woman has been flown to hospital in a critical condition after allegedly being attacked by a man with an edged weapon.

About 5.30pm on Monday, police received reports of a woman being attacked by a man armed with an edged weapon at a shopping centre on Katherine Terrace.

Officers arrested a 49-year-old man at the scene, an NT Police spokesman said.

The 49-year-old victim was taken to Katherine Hospital in a critical condition and later transferred to Royal Darwin Hospital on a Care Flight aircraft.

It is understood the alleged offender and victim are known to each other.

With investigations ongoing, police have urged anyone who witnessed the incident to contact police by contacting 131 444 and quoting P24255174.

Group targets Top End businesses in early morning crime spree

September 17, 7.20am: Police are on the hunt for a group of people behind a Katherine crime spree.

Northern Watch Commander Ronald Mummery said the group travelled through the CBD in the early hours of Tuesday in a white Toyota LandCruiser.

Sergeant Mummery said the group went to multiple properties, including two businesses.

He said the group unlawfully entered both properties, causing significant damage to one and stealing several items from the second.

Sergeant Mummery said multiple crime scenes had been established, and urged anyone with information to contact police on 131 444.

He said police spotted the vehicle and began a “brief pursuit” after one of the incidents, but were unable to recover it.

Cops swoop on ‘suspicious package’ sent to NT home from Thailand

September 16: Drug and organised crime squad investigators have arrested a 62-year-old Bakewell man after intercepting a “suspicious package sent from Thailand” to his address.

An NT Police spokeswoman said Australian Border Force officers swooped on the package on September 10 before discovering it contained 389.9g of methamphetamine hidden within the motor housing of a water pump.

Further investigations then revealed an identical package from the same consignor in Thailand had previously been delivered to the same address.

NT Police detectives then collaborated with their ABF and Australian Federal Police colleagues to conduct a “controlled delivery of a substituted package” to the Bakewell residence on Friday and arrested the 62-year-old at the scene.

In the raid, investigators seized several other packages allegedly previously delivered from Thailand and the man was charged with commercial drug supply.

He is due to face the Darwin Local Court on Tuesday.

Drug squad detective superintendent Lee Morgan said the arrest was the result of “excellent collaboration” between the law enforcement agencies.

“We are committed to disrupting the illegal drug trade and will continue to target those (allegedly) involved in the supply of dangerous substances,” he said.

Man arrested after stolen car chase in Stuart Park

September 16: Police have arrested a 48-year old man who allegedly evaded police in a stolen car in Darwin overnight.

In the early hours of Monday morning, police identified a stolen car driving in the Stuart Park area where an apprehension of the vehicle was attempted.

The vehicle failed to stop and a pursuit followed across the Stuart Park area, before police were forced to terminate the chase due to its escalating risk.

Strike Force Trident personnel deployed to the area and located the same stolen vehicle stationary.

A 48-year-old man was arrested nearby without incident and taken to Palmerston Watch House.

Police said the alleged offender failed to provide a sufficient breath test and was expected to be charged later today.
