AS parliamentary sittings returned, Speaker of the House of Assembly Sue Hickey has showed off a bold — not bald — new look.
Ms Hickey, who shaved her head for charity in March, donned a dark-coloured wig and headband during yesterday’s marathon sitting.
On March 20, the Liberal MP for Clark went through with her commitment to publicly shed her hair to raise funds and awareness for blood cancer.
Ms Hickey had originally planned on having her locks chopped on Parliament Lawns, but the coronavirus crisis forced a change of venue.
Instead, she had her head shaved at her local hairdresser’s with minimal people and minimum fuss.
She said she had been inspired to get the chop after witnessing Tasmanian Governor Kate Warner’s “grace and style” through her cancer battle last year, and hoped to raise $5000 for the Leukaemia Foundation.
When announcing her bald move, Ms Hickey said she would test new headscarves and wigs, and buy a bigger pair of earrings.
