SA Police say at least two gunshots fired into Northfield unit

Police are hunting a drive-by shooter who fired at least two gunshots into a unit on a quiet suburban street, with neighbours revealing it was not the first attack.

A drive-by shooting on a home in Adelaide’s north overnight was not random according to police, and was targeted by arsonists less than a year ago.

Police arrived at the scene on Leeds Ave, Northfield, at 10.30pm on Tuesday night after neighbours reported hearing gunshots on the street.

Two bullets were fired into the house on what neighbours described as a “quiet street”, one through the screen door and another through the garage roller door.

A neighbour’s security camera footage showed a white sedan pulling up outside the small unit just moments earlier, then speeding off with the headlights switched off.

When The Advertiser visited the residence on Wednesday, a middle-aged woman answered the door but did not wish to speak about what had unfolded, except to say no one was hurt.

Chef Gurvinder Saini, 44, lives only a few doors down from the targeted house and said Leeds Ave was typically “very quiet”.

He said he was watching television in his lounge room when he heard the blasts and dialled triple-0.

“It was loud, I could hear it from the back of the house,” Mr Saini said.

“There were about six, seven police cars and the road was all closed off.

“It was pretty frightening – my kids were sleeping and you just wonder, could it happen to you?”

Mr Singh and another neighbour, who did not wish to be named, confirmed that mid-last-year the house was hit in two suspected arson attacks roughly a month apart, which destroyed cars in the driveway.

An SA Police spokeswoman said “the incident was targeted and police are following all lines of inquiry”.

She could not comment specifically on whether police believed the separate attacks were connected.

Officers collected evidence from the scene including CCTV footage of the getaway car but are still working to identify any suspects.
