A man has been stabbed on Hindley St in the Adelaide CBD on Friday night, with a witness seeing emergency crews trying to revive a man who “wasn’t responding”.
The Advertiser understands there was an altercation between a group of people leading up to the stabbing, which happened just before 8pm.
Crews were dispatched to Wakanda Place Multicultural Bar near the western end of Hindley St, between Liverpool and Gray streets.
It is understood the stabbing happened on the street, not in any venue.
Jon Santos, 31, said he was waiting for his friend at Yianni’s Yiros restaurant just after 8pm when police advised staff to lock the door.
Mr Santos said he saw STAR Group officers with rifles patrolling outside while patrons were shut in for about 30 minutes.
When he was allowed to leave, he saw “emergency crews trying to resuscitate a guy on the floor”.
“It was pretty well obscured, they had him surrounded,” he said.
“There was heaps of shouting from people around. I think the guy on the floor wasn’t responding.”
Detectives are on the scene.
Hindley St is blocked off to traffic between Morphett St and West Tce.
In a statement released after 9pm, police said emergency services had responded to “reports a person had been injured”.
“Access to the street will be restricted while the investigation is underway. Please avoid the area,” the statement said.
