Man from Adelaide’s south faces court charged with child abuse material

An Adelaide man in his 50s has been charged with producing and spreading child abuse material after alleged conversations with a cop.

A southern suburbs man has faced court under a cloud of secrecy accused of producing and disseminating child exploitation material last month.

The man in his 50s, whose identity was suppressed after it was submitted he had a looming District Court trial on “unrelated” matters, appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Wednesday after his Tuesday arrest.

He is yet to enter any pleas to three counts of disseminating child exploitation material and one count of producing it.

Those offences, court documents allege, occurred between November 3 and November 16 last month in Adelaide’s south.

On Tuesday, JACET investigators attended the man’s home as a result of conversations and images allegedly shared by the accused with an undercover officer.

His southern suburbs property was searched, with a number of items seized for forensic analysis.

JACET is a joint anti-child exploitation team comprised of officers from SA Police and the AFP.

Detective Inspector Matt Fitzpatrick said the arrest reflected JACET’s “commitment to protecting and keeping children safe”.

“We will continue to target online predators and prosecute anyone who seeks to exploit or harm vulnerable children, no matter where the child lives or where the offender is located,” he said.

On Tuesday, the man made no application for bail and was remanded in custody to return to court in March next year.
