Alleged AN0M criminals return to Adelaide court for bail outcomes

A Murray Bridge man has become the second person to plead guilty to AN0M-related offences since a statewide Operation Ironside 3.0 crackdown – admitting to trafficking meth and GHB throughout Adelaide.

Chad Rick Modra, 42, faced Adelaide Magistrates Court on Tuesday via video link where he made full admissions to three counts of trafficking in a large commercial quantity, seven counts of basic drug trafficking and two counts of knowingly engaging in money laundering.

Modra, the court heard, trafficked methamphetamine at Morphett Vale, Athol Park and Seacliff Park between April and May in 2021.

It was also submitted he trafficked GHB at Athol Park, Plympton and Kilburn during the same period – and laundered $75,000 in cash.

Modra was one of more than a dozen accused to return to court late last month after they were afforded the opportunity to enter guilty pleas and obtain the maximum sentencing discount.

At that appearance, Sean Nottle, for Modra, told the court negotiations with prosecutors were “ongoing”.

On Tuesday, Mr Nottle confirmed to Magistrate John Clover his client was prepared to plead guilty to every charge laid against him following his October arrest.

In doing so, Modra will now be entitled to receive the maximum 40 per cent sentencing discount.

Mr Clover remanded Modra in custody to face the District Court in January where he will be arraigned for sentencing.

In 2022, Modra was jailed for at least four years for dozens of offences including trafficking in a commercial quantity of a controlled drug and money laundering over buried drugs and cash at his Morphett Vale home.

It was the second time in four months his house had been raided.

The District Court heard Modra had reached “criminal career burnout”, and become sick of a life of anti-social behaviour.

Judge Geraldine Davison said that “turning a corner” wasn’t enough and sentenced him to jail.
