Kiera Scott pleads guilty to five counts of drug trafficking as part of Operation Ironside 3.0 crackdown

A former award-winning travel agent already serving a mammoth sentence for drug trafficking has come clean on charges as part of the Operation Ironside 3.0 crackdown.

A once successful career woman turned drug smuggler has now become one of the first few people to admit to the fresh wave of AN0M-related offences.

Kiera Lee Scott, 35, pleaded guilty in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Wednesday to five counts of drug trafficking.

The court heard she trafficked methamphetamine between May and June 2020, in Paralowie and other places.

Scott became the third person to plead guilty to AN0M-related offences since a statewide Operation Ironside 3.0 crackdown.

SA Police made dozens of arrests in relation to the encrypted messaging app AN0M, created by the Australian Federal Police and FBI to track criminal activity, in October.

Scott is already serving a jail sentence for multiple counts of drug trafficking.

Adding on to a previous sentence, Scott was jailed for 11 years, with a non-parole period of six years and two months in 2021.

During sentencing for that offending, the District Court heard Scott and her co-accused attempted to enter the Mobilong Prison at Murray Bridge on February 29, 2020.

“When you were doing so, you were screened by a drug detection dog. The dog detected drugs on both of you,” Judge Paul Slattery said.

Scott’s car was searched and two balloons, containing buprenorphine and naloxone strips, were seized, as well as methamphetamine, a homemade taser and an axe.

Police also found drug dealing text messages on one of Scott’s phones, $3000 in cash and a tick list.

“Two days before this offending, you had telephone contact with another Mobilong prisoner in which you used codes to ask him if he could help you find another drug distributor,” Judge Slattery said.

Police attended Scott’s Paralowie house on June 6, 2020 and found buprenorphine strips, methamphetamine, $6500 cash and 789g of fantasy.

Scott, of Paralowie, had previously pleaded guilty to multiple counts of drug trafficking.

The court heard Scott had previously worked at a travel agency.

“You were successful in this role, however, your position was terminated because of your drug addiction,” Judge Slattery said.

The court heard Scott started a relationship with a man who was a heavy methamphetamine user in 2018.

“Around this time, you say you began supplying methamphetamine to friends to cover the costs of your addiction,” Judge Slattery said.

The court heard Scott was earlier jailed for four years after a police search uncovered 135g of crystal in her handbag, which contained 90g of methamphetamine.

On Wednesday, Scott was committed to the District Court in January on the new charges.
