“Lachlan would often come home with flowers for Tahlia (Mr Carslake’s partner) to cheer her up when she had a bad day, or for no reason other than to say ‘I love you’ or ‘I miss you’,” she said. “He was a man who would do anything for Tahlia, or anyone who needed help.

“Lachlan loved life’s simple joys. He cherished his mates. Above all, her cherished his brother Wyatt who had a special place in his heart.

“His mum Louise will miss his big hugs and his afternoon phone calls that always made her day.

“You left us far too soon, but the memories you gave us, the laughter you shared and the love you showed us will stay with us forever. Rest in peace, Lachlan – you will forever be in our hearts.”

Emergency services were called to Nylastex Engineering Solutions in Edwardstown about 12pm on July 24 following reports Mr Carslake had suffered serious head injuries while operating machinery.

He was rushed to the Flinders Medical Centre and placed on life support surrounded by his family and “love of his life” Tahlia Benvegnu-Carslake until he sadly died on July 27.

A SafeWork SA investigation is ongoing.

Last week, Mr Carslake’s mother Louise Standfield told The Advertiser says she wished she could give him one last hug, and was “still waiting for him to come through the door”.

On Facebook, the distraught Ms Benvegnu-Carslake said she had “lost her person, my forever”.

“He was so proud of himself for what he was achieving and so was I, I will always be so proud of him. This isn’t fair.

“How am I supposed to do this. He wasn’t my other half, he is my whole person, he knows me better than I know me. He once said he always tries to be the best partner he can be and he did everyday.

“He would do anything he could for me, he made me so happy, he would do goofy dances to either make me laugh or try to embarrass me.

“I will never get to hold his hand or hug him or kiss him, feel his warmth, his safety. I will never get to hear him say ‘I love you so much baby’ again or talk to him and hear him talk back. How am I supposed to do this now?”

The Advertiser attended the funeral with permission from the family.
