A hilarious video of Formula One star Valtteri Bottas getting his hair cut at an SA barber shop has gone viral on social media – and sparked claims the cult figure is “more Aussie than most Australians”.
The one-minute clip was shared by Atta Boy, a unisex barber that has locations at Hilton, Prospect, Kent Town and Henley Beach.
It shows Bottas having his trademark “golden mullet” styled in the Prospect salon before the Fin seemingly imagines jumping on the tools, beer in hand, himself.
“This is absolute genius,” one user wrote.
“Valtteri is more Aussie than most Australians,” commented another.
Atta Boy owner Robby Lippett told The Advertiser Bottas had been a client of the salon for about a year.
Now, he said, they were “good mates” who spoke “everyday”.
“He contacted us and booked in over a year ago,” Mr Lippett said.
“Every time he comes to Adelaide, we help him out.”
As well as being a “such a laugh”, Mr Lippett said the viral clip was great for business.
“In 12 hours, it had 1.5m views. That’s the power of social media.
“We’re a small little Adelaide business but we’re making global noise”
In the six years since the business launched, Mr Lippett said Atta Boy had become the go-to space for sports stars and celebrities.
“Travis Head comes here, all the LIV golfers. We’ve even had Zac Efron in.
“And we do Cam Smith’s mullet.”
He said celebrities were often responsible for setting haircut trends, and when it comes to the mullet “it’s not going anywhere”.
“We do 600 haircuts a week, minimum.
“And in the 18-30 age group, mullets are most popular.”
He said it made sense Bottas would visit the salon while travelling the world.
“When you think about it, the mullet isa complicated style because there are a lot of haircuts in one that need to be transitioned together.
“For anyone else around the world, it might be difficult but Australians do a good mullet.
“It’s iconic and no one does a mullet better than Australian barbers.”
