Cyclist with no helmet charged after CBD police chase ends with drug bust
A simple helmet check escalated into an alleged drug bust after a cyclist led police on an early-morning chase through Hindley St in the CBD.
A cyclist has been arrested and allegedly busted with drugs following an early-morning police chase through the CBD.
Police say the brief chase began around 1:40am after a man, who was riding a bike without a helmet on Hindley St, failed to pull over when signalled.
In an alleged attempt to evade patrols, the 22-year-old man from Salisbury travelled west on Hindley St and into a carpark.
However, when he rode back out, he was chased down and arrested by an officer.
A subsequent search uncovered the man allegedly had methamphetamine, tramadol and an ice pipe in his possession.
The man has been charged with failing to wear a bicycle helmet, failing to obey police directions to stop, hindering police and possessing prescription medication.
He was granted bail to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Wednesday, January 21.
Police issued the man with a drug diversion for possession of methamphetamine and equipment.
