Commuter headaches after Adelaide bus falls off O-Bahn tracks at Klemzig Interchange

As an O-Bahn bus careened off the tracks on Tuesday morning, a mysterious plume of white dust was captured on camera. Now, investigators have revealed what happened. See the video.

An investigation is underway into what caused a bus to topple over on the O-Bahn yesterday, causing week-long headaches for commuters from the north eastern suburbs.

The Department for Infrastructure and Transport has launched an urgent review into the shocking incident, which has forced the closure of the Paradise to Klemzig leg of the track.

Security vision shows the bus entering the O-Bahn at the Klemzig Interchange when a section of the guard rail flips up, moments before it comes crashing down into the grassed embankment.

A Transport Department spokeswoman said a guide rail was dislodged during the crash, with a bracket and concrete kerb also damaged, causing visibile plumes of concrete dust to shoot into the air.

The portion of bus track will be closed until Friday for repairs.

Emergency services crews attended the scene after the outbound bus went off the tracks at the Klemzig Interchange around 7.45am this morning.

A crane was called in to help retrieve the bus.

The delicate operation to remove the bus took several hours with the Paradise to Klemzig leg of the track expected to reopen by Friday night.

“It will remain closed for outbound buses (towards Tea Tree Plaza) and buses will continue to detour via the road network. No stops are being missed. Citybound O-Bahn buses remain unaffected.”

The driver of the bus was not injured and there were no passengers on board at the time.

Adelaide Metro has launched an investigation into the crash, with engineers on site to assess the damage to both the vehicle and the track.

South Aussies have been quick to react to the incident, which is the latest in a string of crashes on the iconic busway.

One social media user said “just waiting for a mate”, while another said “can’t park there”.

It came at the same time as multiple multi-vehicle crashes on Adelaide roads.
