The wife of an ex-AFL star could face a 12-year prison sentence if charged and found guilty following the raid of an alleged sex spa in Bali, which police claim was using social media to gain clients.
Former Essendon premiership-winning player Rick Olarenshaw’s wife Nitha Sarnanitha, who is a social media influencer with 23,000 followers on Instagram, was arrested on Friday following police raids at the Flame Spa in Seminyak.
The spa was allegedly involved in “prostitution activities” which are illegal in Bali.
Speaking to local media, Deputy Director of Bail Police’s Criminal Investigation Directorate.
Ketut Suarnaya said police had arrested five people so far, including four “subordinates” of Ms Sarnanitha who worked at the spa.
Mr Suarnaya said police would allege the spa was offering sexual services across Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Twitter and Onlyfans.
He said they could face a maximum penalty of 12 years jail if charged and found guilty.
“They worked to market and offer sensual massage packages using social media applications,” he alleged.
The spa’s Instagram described the parlour as “Bali’s premier sensual massage”.
On the company’s TikTok page, couples are invited to “bring your date or partner” to “enjoy the experience with us”.
“Let us ignite your Valentine’s Day,” the spa states.
Customers at Flame Spa were allegedly charged between $95 and $181.
Ms Sarnanitha states on her LinkedIn page she has been a “self-employed” owner at Flame Spa since July 2017.
Since her arrest, Ms Sarnanitha has set her Instagram account, where she described herself as a “womanpreneur”, to private.
Mr Olarenshaw, who is the director of multiple F45 gym studios in Bali, recently left the country amid claims he was one of the part-owners of Flame Spa. He has not been arrested or charged with any wrongdoing.
Mr Suarnaya said about 20 to 30 women had been identified as working at the spa, but would not be arrested.
During the raid, police said they seized a number of Apple iPads, iPhones, bank machines, gift cards and vouchers, a set of red lingerie, and one treatment menu list.
Mr Olarenshaw is known as “The King of Bali” in AFL circles and drew headlines last year following his 50th birthday party, which featured pole dancers and women wearing lingerie.
The couple were together at the party, however, reportedly separated earlier this year. The pair have a daughter together.
Mr Olarenshaw played 77 games for Essendon, starting in 1993, before spending two seasons at Collingwood where he only played five games.
He then spent one season at North Melbourne for just one senior appearance before announcing his retirement.
