Youth charged as accessory after the fact to murder of Gagebrook man Jarrod Leigh Turner

UPDATED: A Moonah man held in custody assisting police with the Jarrod Leigh Turner murder investigation has been released without charge hours after a 14-year-old girl charged in connection with the killing fronted court.

UPDATED: A 14-year-old girl charged in connection with the killing of Jarrod Leigh Turner has fronted court for the first time as the hunt continues for his shooter.

The teenager, who was arrested late on Tuesday night, appeared in a closed court session on Thursday afternoon charged with one count of being an accessory after the fact to murder.

She did not apply for bail.

Hours after the teenager was remanded in custody, a 29-year-old Moonah man who was assisting police with their investigation into the death of Mr Turner was released without charge.

Detective Inspector Doug Rossiter said the murder probe was “progressing as planned”.

“There are people who we believe were involved in this crime who detectives would like to speak to,” Insp Rossiter said.

“Those people know who they are and are urged to come forward and contact police.”

Mr Turner’s body was discovered by a member of the public on the side of Colebrook Rd, about 2km north of Richmond, shortly before 6am on Sunday.

Police later confirmed Mr Turner, 22, of Gagebrook, had been shot in the head.

It is not yet known why he was in the area or what sparked his killing but the Mercury understands it could be linked to a drug feud.

Crime Stoppers Tasmania chair David Daniels said the organisation had received 31 reports relating to the crime since Monday — 11 of which were submitted on Thursday.

“If you know something that might assist Tasmanian Police to solve the murder of Jarrod Leigh Turner at Richmond on Sunday, please call Crime Stoppers now,” he said.

“Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward if the information provided leads to an arrest.

“No piece of information is too small, and minor details can assist investigations.”

EARLIER: A 14-year-old girl has been charged as being an accessory after the fact to the murder of a Gagebrook man whose body was found by a road at Richmond.

In a statement released this afternoon, Tasmania Police said the girl was today charged

with one count of being an accessory after the fact to murder.

Jarrod Leigh Turner, 22, was found shortly before 6am on Sunday off Colebrook Rd about 2km north of Richmond.

Police later confirmed Mr Turner had been shot.

It is not yet known why he was in the area or what sparked his killing.

The 14-year-old appeared in a closed court session this afternoon and did not apply for bail.

She was remanded in custody.

A 29-year-old Moonah man remains in police custody as part of the same investigation.
