TASMANIA Police is investigating after a woman was allegedly stabbed in the leg with a sharp object during a lunchtime “disturbance” on a popular South Hobart street.
Emergency services responded to a report of an injured woman in Macquarie St about 1pm on Friday.
Detective Acting Sergeant Ryan Keep said the woman was taken by ambulance to the Royal Hobart Hospital for treatment after sustaining non-life threatening injuries in an argument at a nearby house.
“At this stage, we can tell that it’s a sharp implement and there’s been a wound to her leg,” Acting Sergeant Keep said.
“It’s not fully known what was used, but the investigation is only in its early stages.”
A man was arrested at the scene and is assisting police with their investigation.
The man is known to the woman but the incident is not being treated as a family violence matter.
“Detectives at the Hobart CIB are seeking information from any members of the public who may have witnessed an injured woman on Macquarie St in the vicinity of Downie St, South Hobart,” Acting Sergeant Keep said.
“Police would like to thank the witnesses that have already come forward for their valued assistance.”
