THE family of Reid Ludwig have revealed for the first time how they are dealing with the shock loss of the Taroona father, who was allegedly murdered last Sunday.

Mr Ludwig was returning a trailer to the Coles Express petrol station in Blackmans Bay when he was allegedly stabbed with a knife during a minor altercation in front family members about 2.50pm.

The father-of-two later died in the Royal Hobart Hospital.

A 16-year-old high school student is now accused of Mr Ludwig’s murder.

A statement provided by Tasmania Police from the Ludwig family and Reid’s partner Mel said they were dealing with the shock incident with “profound sadness”.

“Reid will be hugely missed and we will have more to say as circumstances permit,” the statement read.

“We are unable to say anything further in relation to the circumstances of his death until the police have completed their investigations.

“We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to everyone who assisted during this tragedy.”

The family are preparing for a private funeral.

The team at Skretting Australia, a global aqua feed company it’s understood Mr Ludwig’s worked for, has also published a tribute in the Mercury.

“Reid quickly became a valued member of our team and his friendly face and caring demeanour will be greatly missed throughout our organisation,” the tribute said.

“We wish Reid’s family and loved ones our sincere and deepest condolences over this difficult period.”

The teenager accused of Mr Ludwig’s murder will spend Christmas behind bars.

The 16-year-old, of Blackmans Bay, pleaded not guilty to one count of murder last Monday in the Hobart Magistrates Court.

The teen cannot be identified under Tasmanian law.

He was remanded in custody and his case was committed to the Supreme Court for trial.

He is scheduled to appear next at 2.15pm on February 3.
