A BRIDGEWATER man has been charged with armed robbery after he allegedly threatened a service station worker with a knife before fleeing with a “substantial amount” of cash.
Police were called to reports of a robbery at the United Service Station in Green Point Rd, Bridgewater, about 11.25pm on Thursday.
The suspect, who was allegedly wearing dark clothing and a black face mask, is accused of entering the service station armed with a knife and demanding money from the attendant before fleeing the scene towards Scott Rd.
Detective Acting Inspector Ben Duffey said the service station attendant and a female customer were not injured during the incident.
“These types of crimes can instil fear in the community,” he said.
“It’s a fairly traumatic experience for both of those people to go through but there was no physical injures.”
Acting Insp Duffey said the man charged was arrested in the Bridgewater area on Friday morning after being identified as a potential suspect.
The 24-year-old was expected to face an out-of-sessions court hearing in Hobart on Friday night.
Police are yet to rule out if others were involved or had benefited from the crime, with Acting Insp Duffey urging anyone with information about the robbery to come forward.
“We rely heavily on information from members of the community,” he said.
“Often it’s that little piece of information that members of the community might not think is important that actually really is.
“We’re particularly interested in speaking with anyone who saw a male wearing dark clothing and potentially a mask over his face acting suspiciously around the East Derwent Highway, in the vicinity of Green Point Rd and Scott Rd.”
