DETECTIVES who have spent more than seven years hunting a killer who shot dead a Tasmanian man in his home are hoping a $250,000 reward will lead to a conviction.
Tasmania Police today announced it had increased the reward by $50,000 for information leading to a conviction in the August 2009 murder case of Shane Geoffrey Barker.
He was shot in his home at Campbell Town and investigators believe they are close to finding who is responsible.
“We firmly believe that Shane’s killer is someone we’ve already spoken to,” Assistant Commissioner Glenn Frame said.
A team of five detectives has been looking at new avenues in the case since November and want to hear from people who have so far been reluctant to share what they know.
“In the passage of time someone’s circumstances and allegiances may have changed and the offer of a life-changing amount of money may be the motivation they need to come forward,” Mr Frame said.
“That kind of money allows a fresh start.”
Police have previously sought information about a dual cab ute that was seen in Campbell Town on the night of Mr Barker’s murder.
Mr Frame said several aspects of the original investigation require further examination.
