POLICE have charged a 20-year-old P-plate driver with drink driving offences after she allegedly recorded a reading more than four times over the limit in Tasmania’s North on Saturday night.

Members of the public reported the woman driving in the Norwood area to police, who found her behind the wheel shortly after 10.30pm.

She was breath tested and blew 0.216 — more than four times over the legal limit for fully licenced drivers. P-plate drivers are not allowed to have any alcohol in their system.

The woman was immediately disqualified from driving for 12 months and bailed to appear in court early next year.

Investigating officer Tom Summers said is was disappointing the drink driving message did not appear to be getting through to some drivers.

“Tasmania Police would like to thank members of the public who alerted them to the woman’s

driving,” Constable Summers said.

“This is a timely reminder in the lead up to Christmas that drink driving forms one of the Fatal Five contributors to road deaths and Tasmania Police will be out in force to apprehend those committing offences that put themselves and other road users in danger.”
