Police today identified the man’s body as 22-year-old Jarrod Leigh Turner, of Gagebrook.

It is not yet known why he was in the area or what sparked his killing.

When asked if Tasmanians should be concerned about a killer at large, Bellerive CIB Detective Inspector Doug Rossiter said: “We don’t think people should have cause for alarm”.

“This is a tragic incident and it would appear to us the victim may have known the people he was with [at the time he was shot],” Insp Rossiter said.

He said detectives believed there were people within the community who had information critical to solving the crime.

‘We’re aware from information we’ve received that there are people who are talking about this that haven’t come forward to police,” he said.

“No matter how small, as with something this serious, we just need people to call us and let us know.”

Insp Rossiter wouldn’t disclose what type of firearm was used or the extent of information gathered from today’s post-mortem examination.

Hundreds of Mr Turner’s friends and family took to social media yesterday to pay tribute to the life of a young man gone too soon.

Mr Turner’s twin brother Ashley wrote: “I can’t do it without my twin brother, I need you Jarrod, you’re my role model — the one I looked up to, my rock, everything a brother could ever want. I miss you”.

Kirsten Baillie wrote: “Rest in peace Jarrod, you’ll be missed by so many people. Gone but never forgotten”.

Mr Turner’s death was initially treated as a pedestrian accident but was later categorised as suspicious when detectives deemed his wounds to be consistent with a gunshot.

Richmond’s Colebrook Rd between Franklin St and Fingerpost Rd remained closed again today as police continued crime scene investigations.
