Man in a critical condition at RHH after serious quad bike crash near Glenora

A MAN is in a critical condition after suffering life threatening injuries in a serious quad bike crash on a forestry trail in the Derwent Valley.

A PLENTY man is in a critical condition after suffering life threatening injuries in a serious quad bike crash in the Derwent Valley.

Police believe the man failed to negotiate a right hand curve on a forestry trail off Bluff Road, about 8km east of Glenora, and hit an embankment before being thrown from the bike about 5pm yesterday.

Senior Constable Adam Hall said the 52-year-old rider was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Three other men who were riding on the track with the man raised the alarm with emergency services.

Two police rescue helicopters attended the scene and with the assistance of local paramedics and a doctor the man was stabilised before being flown to the Royal Hobart Hospital for emergency surgery. He remained in a critical condition this morning.

Senior Constable Hall said crash investigation services, local police and forensic services conducted an investigation of the scene and the area near the crash.

“The area is well known to the riders and they visit the area often,” he said.

“Initial investigations suggest that excessive speed may be a contributing factor.”
