Man and woman charged in connection to suburban shooting

Police have charged a man and a woman allegedly connected to a shooting as the search continues for a third suspect.

POLICE have charged a man and a woman allegedly connected to a shooting at Kings Meadows as the search continues for a third suspect.

Acting Detective Inspector John Parker, of Launceston CIB, on Wednesday said the investigation into the shooting of a 26-year-old Nunamara man in Pinkard Street about 7.30pm last Friday is ongoing.

A 29-year-old Swan Bay man is expected to appear in an out-of-hours court after he was charged with causing grievous bodily harm, aggravated armed robbery, possessing a loaded firearm in a public place, discharging a firearm within 250m of a dwelling house and possessing a controlled drug.

A 23-year-old Kings Meadows woman was charged with being an accessory after the fact to causing grievous bodily harm and was bailed to appear before the Launceston Magistrates Court on March 6.

Insp Parker said police were still searching for a 32-year-old Launceston man believed to have been involved in the shooting.

“That man is aware that police wish to speak with him but at this particular time he is avoiding us, despite our extensive efforts to locate him,” he said.

“While this type of crime is rare, Tasmania Police treat any crime involving firearms as extremely serious and will vigorously pursue those persons who not only commit crime with firearms, but also those who possess firearms unlawfully.”
