Four men facing charges after stolen ute fire sparks bushfire in Clarendon Vale

POLICE are working to ascertain which of four men arrested in connection with the theft and burning of a ute in suburban Hobart set the vehicle on fire.
Four men were today charged in relation to setting alight the stolen vehicle at Clarendon Vale on Monday afternoon.
The burning of the ute sparked a large bushfire, which caused firefighters to divert their attention from other emergency blazes to bring it under control.
An 18-year-old Clarendon Vale man has been charged with motor vehicle stealing and
being in possession of stolen property.
Three other men from the same suburb have been charged with being in possession of stolen property.
Police will allege the 18-year-old man stole a white Toyota Hilux from South Arm
some time between Sunday night and early Monday afternoon.
About 7.55pm on Monday, police located the burnt out ute in an area of bush at
Clarendon Vale.
The ute blaze caused a bushfire which required a large-scale response from the Tasmania Fire Service including the use of five helicopters and ground crews from Rokeby, Lauderdale, and Seven Mile Beach.
As part of the police investigation, officers today arrested for men in relation to the fire.
The police investigation is ongoing to determine who was responsible for setting the ute
alight..
That person will potentially face arson or related charges.
