AN Ulverstone unit has become a crime scene now police suspect foul play could be behind the disappearance of the 58-year-old man who lived there.
Forensic police officers have been examining the unit as they hunt for more clues about why Noel Joseph Ingham has not been seen for almost three months.
The last record of his movements is July 22, when he visited his doctor.
Police were alerted by a government department that he was a missing person on October 4.
Detective Senior Sergeant David Chapman said police held “grave concerns” for his welfare.
Neighbours were doorknocked this week to “help build a picture’ of what might have happened to the man they described as a “quiet bloke.”
The family that lives next door to Mr Ingham’s Colac Court unit said they had no issues with him would say hello over the fence.
“A fella that was living there said he had gone to Hobart. We didn’t think any more of it until we heard he was missing,” the neighbour said.
Other people in the street said there had been movement at Mr Ingham’s unit a few days ago and furniture was taken from the property.
Sgt Chapman said it was impossible to say if there was a link between Mr Ingham’s visit to the doctor and his disappearance.
“The investigation is only in its early stages and we are exploring a number of possible scenarios,” he said.
He said Mr Ingham did not have a “lot of ties" to Tasmania, his family did not live here and he appeared to be a quiet man who kept to himself.
“Police hold grave concerns for Mr Ingham’s welfare and believe that there is a possibility he may have become a victim of foul play,” Sgt Chapman said.
The missing man’s 2002 silver Jeep Grand Cherokee, registration number EN6838, is not at his address and police believe he may have been travelling in the vehicle.
Anyone with information that may help police find Mr Ingham is urged to anonymously call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Devonport CIB on 6478 4036.
