A MAN who shot at police while on a drug-fuelled rampage with his girlfriend has lost an appeal against his seven-year jail sentence.
Cameron James Brasher, 27, appealed to the Court of Criminal Appeal against his sentence, saying it was manifestly excessive.
Chief Justice Alan Blow and Justice Helen Wood dismissed the appeal, effectively upholding the sentence of Justice Robert Pearce and the long non-parole period of four and half years.
Justice Stephen Estcourt dissented, saying he would allow the appeal and substitute a sentence of five years and impose a non-parole period of three years.
Dubbed the “Facebook Fugitive” after images of he and his girlfriend Tereza Loone were posted to social media while he was on the run, Brasher pleaded guilty to five charges.
‘It was extremely fortunate that police officers had not suffered serious injury. When he was fired at Constable [Adrian] Ayres feared for his life,’’ Justice Pearce said in sentencing.
Justice Blow said the seriousness of the conduct in shooting repeatedly at police officers meant he was not persuaded that the sentence was manifestly excessive.
