The friends and family of regional Queensland woman Tayla Spies, who has been missing from the Maranoa and Western Downs regions for a week, are urging anyone with information about Tayla to come forward.
Police say the 28-year-old woman was last seen on Sunday, February 2, between the hours of 10am and 1pm travelling along the Carnarvon Highway south of Roma in a white 2017 Toyota HiLux.
Police say the Roma mother was seen driving north on the highway just south of the Condamine turn-off, 340km west of Toowoomba and about 500km west of Brisbane.
Police said they shared Ms Spies’ family’s serious concerns about her welfare.
“Tayla is described as caucasian, with brown shoulder length hair, blue eyes, slim build and approximately 170cms tall,” a statement read.
“She was last seen wearing a fluorescent pink long-sleeve shirt and light-coloured shorts.”
The Queensland Police Service has cast a wide net, appealing to community members and travellers from Roma to Dalby across a 300km range in the Maranoa and Western Downs regions.
“She is known to frequently travel between Roma and Dalby,” stated a missing-person report on Friday.
Urgent pleas for information
Late on Wednesday night, February 5, a friend of the young mother posted to social media asking if anyone had seen Ms Spies, attaching photos of the pair.
The Western Downs man, Tyran Norford, said Ms Spies “hasn’t made contact or been heard of since” about 11.30am on Sunday, February 2.
“She’s listed on the missing persons, share this post please,” he said.
“She was heading (to) Roma in a white dual cab HiLux, stock as, no bull bar, tub tray newer shape one.”
Investigators say the dual cab utility has a distinctive black bull bar and blacked-out wheels with a Queensland registration plate 559 GJ7.
Tayla’s sister, Roma woman Rebecca Spies, shared Mr Norford’s post, appealing for anyone with information to come forward, “no matter how big or small”.
“If any of my friends have seen my sister or heard from her in the past week, please get in touch with the Roma Police or myself,” she said.
“Or even if you see a Toyota HiLux that matches this description around the area, just a photo of the car or licence plate will be enough to confirm if it is her car or not.
“Every little bit of information will help us.”
She urged residents and travellers in a number of areas to cast their minds back to Sunday, including Roma and Surat but also Dalby, Toowoomba, Condamine, Meandarra, and Cecil Plains.
Surat Basin wide search
On Friday, police released a missing person alert seeking urgent help from the public to help find the young woman.
“Tayla Spies was last seen travelling along the Carnarvon Highway, just south of the Condamine turn-off heading towards Roma between the hours of 10am and 1pm, on Sunday afternoon February 2,” the report read.
Following information received from the community, police have confirmed Tayla Spies was last seen in the Surat area between 11-11.30am on Sunday, February 2.
Aerial searches of the area were conducted over the weekend
“Police are appealing to anyone with information about her whereabouts, to immediately come forward.”
